In the capital of the largest Muslim nation of the world, 700 people are studying the Bible with the 1400 disciples of the Jakarta International Church of Christ. By faith, the Indonesian churches are planting 5 new churches this year and are praying to plant 50 in the next 10 years. Here is a report from their recent conference in Medan.
Nusantara Conference Medan, April 17-19, 2009 was running successfully. Starting from Leaders Meeting on the first day until the last service on Sunday afternoon at 18.30 onwards.
Numbers of event, service, and training class was held on that time. Beside that, Medan church also provide a tour with free transportation to Tongging, Si Piso-Piso, and Berastagi. And according to the informations of the committee, the payment was earned by brothers and sisters from campus ministry of Medan who had worked hard to sell used clothes few days before the conference was held.
“Conference in Medan is one of the hospitable conference that I have ever attended”, expressed Harliem Salim to appreciate Medan Church. Similarly said by Budi Hartono who stated that the first conference in Medan that time are more than just an event because there was love and hospitality of Medan Church that could be felt by the participants of conference from other city in Indonesia. “Conference in Medan had succesfuly achieve over our expectation or estimation”, he added.
How could not be, the opening of the conference in Yang Lim Plaza on the date of 18 April 2009 attended by more than 2000 people. The event also shiny with traditional dance, drama, choir by Consolasio who ever grasp first champion in the city of Beijing and three first medalion in Australia. Plus numbers of songs by national famous artist Ria Warna at the end of the event.
And as the last event, the leader of GKDI Medan which are Sdr. Suwandi received a grace of biblical position as evangelist together with his wife, Sdri. Wernita as woman ministry leader. In the same time, Harliem Salim closed the conference by announcing the plan of sending 5 mission team to the city of Pekan Baru, Bangka, Manokwari, Solo and Ujung Pandang. Beside that too, there were also 7 persons got baptized after taking decision to repented and become the disciples of Christ.
