Recently, our gofundme.com/trinimission efforts were successful thanks to a number of friends and disciples like J. Brian Craig and others who gave so graciously to the cause. Working with HOPE worldwide Trinidad and Tobago and the Port of Spain Church of Christ, we were able to raise a sizable donation for St. Mary's Children Home in Trinidad. HOPE worldwide is an international charity that changes lives by harnessing the compassion and commitment of dedicated staff and volunteers to deliver sustainable, high-impact, community-based services to the poor and needy. St Mary's Children Home is very deserving of our assistance because of the kinds of services it offers.
Treatment Counselor Seeks Stories of Transformation
God has placed on my heart an idea that I want to seek your help with! I am a Treatment Counselor at a residential treatment facility for kids with mental health and behavioral challenges. The population of kids we serve are those who suffer from any mental health struggle possible: depression, anxiety, bipolar, suicidal, and so much more. Most of the children have also been severely abused, neglected, or abandoned and have experienced trauma that is hard to imagine. The children who live on campus range from 10 to 17 years old.

I’m eight years old, sitting on the carpet in my parents' living room in Durham, North Carolina. There’s a warmth and energy flowing through the room. I’m surrounded by at least four couples my parents age, a couple guitars, maybe a tambourine or hand shaker, and a lot of laughter, singing, and joy. Moments like this are etched in my brain. Not the exact people or the exact songs, but the emotional memory is vivid - I’m completely full, happy, alive.
Shades of Vision Merges Music and Ministry
Several years ago, Herschel Mclemore and I started a music group called Shades of Vision. The purpose of starting the group was to inspire Christians to stay faithful and true to God. Over the years we've written original songs that married the old school flavor with an R&B flare. In our latest project we desired to marry the old school with the young way of hip hop, in order to impact our youth.
Over the last twenty years, my wife and I have served in the full-time ministry and spent time in churches in Providence, Rhode Island, Springfield, Massachusetts, Philadelphia, Dallas, and Oklahoma City. Since 1993, we've been in the DC Regional Christian Church, where I currently serve in the full time ministry.Eugene Phillips and I are the main songwriters for the group. I usually write songs that are born out of life experiences, as with the song "Lord You Know." Here are two songs that we'd like to share with you.
US Ambassador Attends Event at U-West Indies
The U.S. Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, John L. Estrada, attended a concert hosted by the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, (UWI STA). The Department of Creative and Fine Arts, in partnership with HOPE worldwide Trinidad and Tobago and 2016 Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholar Tony Martin hosted the event. The concert honored St. Mary’s Children Home (SMCH) staff and residents.
