Mamta is sixteen years old. When she was younger her family were members of the New Delhi church. As time went on her parents drifted from their faith and got involved in a lot of sin. Mamta had enjoyed years of fun, friendship, and fellowship with other children in the church. Even though she was young she did not want to let go of those relationships.
In order to try and control her her family stopped her from attending school, thereby abruptly ending her education. They also kept her locked in at home, not allowing her to step out of the house.
That is where the teen girls of the New Delhi church stepped in. They reached out to Mamta, visited her consistently, and gave her the courage to come out to attend church meetings. Mamta started studying the Bible. It was tough. Girls are not encouraged to disobey their parents in this culture. Mamta’s faith grew strong though and this month she made the decision to get baptized. Even though her family were not happy they relented when she saw her determination.
August 15 is Independence Day in India. We celebrate the birth of a free country. On that day Mamta celebrated her newfound freedom in Christ, surrounded by the teen ministry who had fought hard for her.

Teens in India, especially girls, face tremendous obstacles when they try to make their own decisions. Choosing to follow Christ is one of those tough times when these young women have to stand up for their convictions and face odds a lot of us in the Western world cannot relate to.
