24 Hours of Giving in Boston

On April 3, 2015, the Boston Church of Christ sponsored a 24-hour basketball event called “Hoops for Hope” to raise money for HOPE worldwide’s health initiatives in Cambodia.

Forty-eight men and women played basketball for 24 consecutive hours, raising more than $50,000 in donations. “Hoops for Hope” was held at UMass Lowell and was attended by many local dignitaries. Lowell Mayor Rodney Elliott also participated as a player in the event.

The “Hoops for Hope” event is held in several cities every year, raising money for HOPE worldwide. Donations raised from players have helped support the Sihanouk Hospital Center of Hope and the Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital in Cambodia, enabling these facilities to continue to offer free medical care to people in need.

One player, Adam Roscoe, found a creative way to raise funds this year by challenging friends and family to donate in return for a vote toward a hairstyle that Adam agreed to sport for one week if his goal of $2,000 was met. The crazy hairstyle options ranged from a “Reverse Mohawk” to “The Inconceivable.” Adam raised over $2,000 and played 24 hours of basketball with his new hairstyle.
