7 Great Reasons to Give to Special Missions Featured

One of the most remarkable characteristics of ICOC churches worldwide has always been our missionary spirit. Every year, ordinary Christians all over the world show extraordinary generosity so the gospel can spread. Every year, there is a Special Missions offering, and tens of thousands faithfully give. Missional giving has become part of our DNA.

Go-Make-Disciples

I’ve been both on the receiving side and the giving side of Special Missions. In 1995, I was one of the many transformed by Jesus in Moscow, Russia. Through the years, I have had the chance to look into the eyes of disciples, without whose sacrifice I would have not been saved. It’s a powerful experience. Even more powerful is the sense of joy and purpose they all seem to carry with them.

Here’s why you should join the movement of those who give generously, faithfully and intentionally:

1. You can be part of something greater than yourself. Ultimately, this is what we all want. Isn’t it?

2. You might never see the fruit of your sacrifice. Financial giving doesn’t get more selfless than this.

3. The only thing greater than giving with zero hope of benefitting from it is getting a glimpse of the impact you are having. Your heart might follow your money, and take you on a mission trip.

4. Saving up for Special Missions trains us in restraint and long term strategic giving.

5. Thinking about how the other 99% of the world lives helps us re-calibrate our life as part of the 1%. Perspective is beautiful.

6. It teaches us that a group of determined followers of Jesus can do amazing things together.

7. Giving up a few lattes a month, adds up to much more than you thought. Are there other things you are overspending on?

What else has giving to Special Missions taught you?
