2,119 people worshipped together to conclude the 2009 Florida Discipleship Conference. The preaching challenged disciples to “Remember the Lord” so we can move forward with building God’s church.
The FDC grew to over 1500 registrants who gathered in Orlando. The South Florida Church of Christ accepted the responsibility for the conference which was led excellently by Director Ron Conkling. Sam Powell of New York and JP Tynes of Columbia, South Carolina gave the keynote sermons. Classes were taught by staff and members of the Florida churches.
Here are some highlights of the weekend:
• The first church planting and the first new campus ministry in 10 years were sent out to Daytona, Florida and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

• Steven and Kristen Van Bueren are beginning the campus ministries at LSU and Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as a part of the New Orleans Church. Click here for more info and a video.
•The South Florida Church of Christ launched out on faith this year to raise $450,000 for missions so they could start a missions school, help South American churches and help with the Daytona planting. Their 1,100 members prayed and fasted even as their economy fell. God provided the means to meet the goal which is equivalent to 10 regular Sunday contributions.
• Each of the Florida churches reported baptisms and good news.
• Sam Powell challenged the disciples to Remember the Lord in the Word and in action.
• Sam and JP led a very honest session addressing “Remember the Lord” in our racial unity.
• JP remembered the Lord’s call: “The harvest is ready. The harvest is huge. Pray for workers. Here am I, send me!”
• Sherwin Mackintosh produced an inspirational Saturday evening program “Remember the Lord in Song” that concluded with a reprise of several songs from the memorable musical “Upside Down.”
• RMR Productions did an excellent job producing the event.
Disciples Today premiered DTHeartandSoul.com, a new website to help singles of the International Churches of Christ find their soulmates! Randy Jordan, CEO of HOPEworldwide updated the disciples on service to the poor.
