The Boston Church of Christ had the privilege of seeing and hearing from 'John Mark' and appointing a new Elder, Evangelist and Women's Ministry Leader.
Steve Johnson performed his one man play based on the character of John Mark He helped all of us to get a "behind the scenes" view of what it was like to be with Jesus, Paul and the beginnings of the church in Jerusalem and beyond. It was an exciting and eventfull worship service!
The insight of character Steve portrayed helped bring home what it was like to "see" Jesus in action and in his typical form, bring some humor to the stories we are so familiar with. His rendition of Jesus in deep thought and then 'happening' to find himself on the water helps bring the reality and humanity of Jesus into our lives today. There were two performances and services held at Nevins Hall in Framingham just down the street from our Framingham facility. Click here to go to a photo album of the Service >>>
We also had the honor to see a new Evangelist, Elder and Women's ministry leader appointed. Mike and Kristen Lamb were appointed Evangelist and Women's ministry leader by the Rogers and the Shaws. Mike and Kristen have served faithfully in the Northern Worship Center as teen leaders and their work and service has brought them to this point of being appointed. They have had such and tremendous impact on not only the teens of the NWC but also the teens around the church and their parents as well. They have been integral to the Teen Camp that we have each year that brings hundreds of teens together for a fabulous experience that the teens look forward to each year.
Not to be outdone, a new Elder was also appointed in the Boston Church. Val Koha was appointed an Elder by the Arthurs and Shaws this Sunday as well. Val has served as the International Missions Society Chair for several years and helped turn our missions effort in Europe around in the years that he has served. He also chairs the Beam Missions Fund, a fund that was donated by Tom Beam and is now helping to launch missions efforts all around the world. More recently Val has been asked to take the point at establishing a teaching ministry in the Boston Church. He lead the Teachers Task Force that has laid down the foundation of a new teaching ministry, teachers group and training both for staff and non staff. It was a joyful sight to see him on stage with his wife Ireen and their 6 children, their spouses and children surrounding them. This now bring that number of elders in the Boston Church to 12, a number that we expect to continue to grow as the church here continues to multiply and mature.
Along with all of this we had a great worship time together and a special communion led by Doug Arthur as he related his recent health challenges to the church and how this has affected him and his outlook on life and God. He said, 'It is easy to have faith for others when they go through challenges like this, it is a whole different matter to have faith for yourself'. Please be praying for Doug and his family and that God will bring about a complete healing.
Finally we took up a benevolence contribution to not only benefit the church here but to also be sent to the church in Portland Oregon to help with the ongoing costs of heath-care for Steve's wife, Lisa. Be praying for her as well and lets all take advantage of each day that God gives us and use it completely for his glory. Shared from the Boston church of Christ website >>>
