Mack and Zoë Strong are the 2011 recipients of the “Washingtonian of the Year” award. As deacons in the Seattle Church of Christ, they truly exemplify the word Servant. Mack played fullback for the Seattle Seahawk for 13 seasons, going to the Super Bowl in 2006 and twice making the Pro Bowl.
Perhaps even more significantly, Mack was awarded the Seahawks’ Steve Largent Award 3 times—an award given to the player that leads and serves the team and the community, on and off the field.
Lynne Green, Director of Women’s Ministries for the Seattle Church of Christ, recalls first understanding the Strongs’ heart for service when she heard that once, after a church pot luck dinner, Mack and Zoë spent Mack’s
day off from the NFL scrubbing the pots and pans used for the event. Mack and Zoë together founded and developed TEAM-WORKS ACADEMY, a program of HOPE worldwide that serves at-risk youth in Seattle, particularly reaching out to the Native American population.
One Native American legend says, “A man is known forever by the tracks he leaves behind.” Mack and Zoë have left deep and rich tracks in and out of the Seattle Church as they continue to spearhead the church’s efforts to serve the needy among us, our neighbors and the greater Seattle community.
