Sisters from all over the world fellowshipped, laughed, cried, and worshipped as one. Several times during the few days of the conference I found myself in awe, with tears streaming down my face. I loved being with life long friends, women who were young Christians with me in the campus ministry twenty five years ago. I enjoyed making new friendships, renewing old ones, going to classes, sharing life, changing meal times…
One of the things I love about our movement of churches is the strong vibrant women’s ministry. As a young woman I was attracted to the opportunities to grow, lead, go on mission teams, do radical thingsfor God.
Now our own daughters are grabbing on to the torch that we are passing on to them.By no means does that imply we are not in the fight ourselves; it just means the younger women are becoming our partners. As the mature women, let us ensure we keep setting the pace and showing the way by a life of example!
The women’s program started on Friday morning with good news from around the world. We heard from every corner of the world, including Africa, Latin America,
The next day we had various workshops on ageing gracefully (Gloria Baird and others), balancing life and mission (Laura Garcia Bengochea and others), and having a passion for the ministry (Jeanie Shaw and others). The women’s program ended on Saturday afternoon with lessons by Linda Brumley and Rolayo Ogbonnaya on overcoming trials and by Nadine Templer on finishing the work.
All the lessons and sharing are available online at DisciplesToday.
Do listen to them if you were not able to attend. Even if you did attend, listening again may be even more convicting the second time around!
