Life is not always as dramatic in 
Most of them are illiterate, have never had a chance at an education, and therefore are completely dependent on their husbands. Unfortunately the harsh conditions of life drive these men to drink and they often end up jobless. So many women are married to men who cannot support the family and yet will not allow their wives to hold a job out of the house.
Imagine being one of those women, confined to a tiny room, expected to cook three full meals for a large family on a daily basis on virtually no money. The children cannot be sent to school for lack of funds. Medical needs go unmet and women die in childbirth at alarming rates. Infant mortality is also very high.
This is where HOPE Worldwide comes in. We offer vocational training courses to women in their own neighbourhoods. The courses last three months and cover subjects such as tailoring and beauty culture. Within a few weeks, these women (who are incredibly motivated) achieve a basic level of competence. They can then apply for micro credit loans in order to buy, say, a sewing machine and start their own business from home.
